During those times, people helped their neighbor, children were taught skills by their grandparents, and traditions were passed on. This is the true meaning of community. |
Classes And Workshops
Workshops and classes will be held seasonally at our farm beginning in 2009. It will be a great opportunity to be challenged and learn something new. The following is a list of the topics that we will be covering:
Sustainable Farming and Foraging- From how to milk a cow to building a compost pile or hunting for morel mushrooms, this series of classes and workshops will nurture the farmer and forager in you.
Preserving and Preparing the Harvest- These classes will guide you in the art of cooking and eating seasonally with an emphasis on preserving nutrition. There will be opportunities to learn the art of traditional butchering, smoking meats, cheese making, bread baking and fermenting foods.
Traditional Crafts- Beekeeping, soap making, woodworking and quilting these classes will pick up where grandma or grandpa left off.
Practical and life skills- In a jam would you know how to create your own energy, build a shelter or find food? Do you know how to communicate with a ham radio or collect rainwater for your home? These classes will cover a whole variety of ‘how-to’ skills that will come in handy in the event of a natural disaster.
Outdoors Adventure- Camping in the woods, cooking over a campfire, scavenger hunts, summer camp and studying the stars at night, these classes will get your kids (or the kid in you) out from in front of the TV with your curiosity for the outdoors rekindled. |
